If I were rich I think that I would be a great philanthropist. Seeing as though I’m not, I like to lend myself to helping people less fortunate than myself whenever I get the chance. Sometimes assisting a cause takes a great deal of time and energy. Other times it’s as simple as signing your name on the dotted line. I love to flip through Blogger by clicking the next blog link because you truly never know what goodies you are going to find. Just a few minutes ago I came across My Land Iran, a blog by a girl named Asfar. Asfar is Iranian and sick of being oppressed by her government. I’ve been following the story of what’s going on over there and it’s very depressing. I could not imagine having to live like some of them do. I could not imagine having to see the things that they do and live in fear (remember the Neda video?...exactly). At first I was drawn to her beautiful pink nails and sick DKNY bracelet. Then I read what she had to say. The part that really got me was her post titles “What If?”. It starts off with a picture of a bloody man wiping his face. The words made me think about the simple freedoms and abilities I have that I don’t necessarily take for granted (trust me, sometimes I’ll get up and just start walking simply because I suddenly became overjoyed by the fact that unlike some at least I CAN walk), but everyone needs a reminder every now and then. Here’s an excerpt from the post:
‘What if you were told what to wear? What words you cannot speak? Where you can and cannot go? What if your life depended on those who decide for you?”
She ends it with the words: “When government power does not come from the people, its power is unlimited and controls every aspect of people’s lives. HELP US FREE IRAN”. I don’t know that there is much that I can do, but I did email Asfar simply to let her know that it’s not only the Iranian people that wish to see a peaceful future not just for Iran, but for every town and city in every part of the world. Sometimes I just get into these moods man… You can check out Asfar’s blog for yourself at http://wwwterritory68.blogspot.com/
