I've always wanted to a bartender. Because of that I've always kept a fridge full of alcohol in preparation for my endeavor. My apartment is teeny, but that hasn't stopped me from wanting a bar. My fridge simplly doesn't cut it. As time has passed I've noticed that I have no place to put one, but I plan on getting one anyway. I have a small pantry off of my kitchen and that may be just the place to put a lil bookshelf or something that can hold my liquor. Not really a bar, but I think it's a cute idea. I was thinking about what kinds of things I should stock and that's when I realized that I don't know how to make too much of anything. I'm a 1 part rum, 2 parts coke or 2 parts vodka, 1 part OJ kinda gal. Definitely keep it simple. Recently I've started collecting drink recipe books and I now know that I really don't know shit about making drinks. This is where The Boston Shaker comes into play. I discovered them through the always hip, always fascinating Thrillist blog. They really are great and keep me up on all of what's new in and around Boston. If you thought we had too many restaurants already Thrillist almost daily update on the new ones opening will absolutely blow your mind. Back to The Boston Shaker though. this store is iiiiilllllll. They sell all types of things including bitters which I had no knowledge of before buying my cocktail books. The art of making drinks is a serious business. They recently started selling some of their inventory online and the prices are pretty good. In the online store I've found bitters for $6, an awesome looking vintage spirits and forgotten cocktails book for $20, and all sorts of things I've never heard of like Dime Bar Spoons and Maple Muddlers. They're serious business folks. The link to their online store is listed below as well as their brick and mortar address. Let me know what you find!
